What is Y.A.N.A. ?
Y.A.N.A. is a FREE telephone reassurance and welfare maintenance program for residents in the Village of Milan. This program is designed to provide daily phone contact to senior citizens, disabled persons, or anyone who can positively benefit from routine contact. The goal of this program is to provide piece of mind and a measure of security to community members who enjoy the independence of living alone.
How Does Y.A.N.A. Work?
A representative from the Milan Police Department will call participants daily during the two hour time frame that they provide. The representative will have a brief conversation with the participant and check on their well-being.
If the participant does not answer the phone after several attempts, a series of steps will follow to ensure their safety and well-being. These steps may include, but are not limited to: calling emergency contacts, stopping by their home to check on them, and dispatching the appropriate police and medical services if needed.
If a participant will temporarily be away from their home during the times they provided (vacation, hospital, etc.), they should notify the Milan Police Department of the dates/times they will be away so it can be noted and they will not receive calls on those days they are away.
How Can You or a Loved One Participate?
There are 2 simple ways to sign up for the program:
1. Click the "Register for Y.A.N.A. Online" link in the left sidebar, complete the form and click "Submit".
2. Stop by the Milan Police Department located at 619 Uranium Avenue, Milan, NM 87021 and register with our administrative assistant.
Either way, you will begin receiving calls during your designated times almost immediately after submitting your application.
